After 110 years, a Family Bible comes home...

found on eBay!

The story of how I discovered it...

I'm a big eBay fan. I'm constantly amazed at the treasures eBay yields.
Several years ago I began plugging "Moring" into the search box on eBay. Moring is not a
common surname by any means and the search results are generally
limited to misspellings of "morning" and "mooring"...as in "boat mooring".
There are works of fiction written by an author named Marcel Moring
from Norway or Denmark, and there is a slew of them on eBay.
Moring would show up in a list of surnames
occasionally in genealogy publications listed.
Interesting stuff, but never anything spectacular.

All that changed around Memorial Day this year. (2003)

It had been about two months since I had searched Moring.
I had grown accustomed to the usual search results, and had not given it much thought.
If it was by dumb luck or by Divine intervention, I'll never know...but I plugged the old surname
into the box and hit ENTER.

BOOM! There it was!

"Moring/Clements Bible...115 years old!" popped up as the first search result!
Holy cow...I just about fell out of my chair. I composed myself and clicked the link.

Before my eyes was the picture of an old family Bible.
It was big...like the one at your Grandma's house. It appeared to be in good shape for its' age.
I read on.
The description read as follows...."Moring/Clements Bible found at estate sale in Richmond, Va."
"Contains lots of family info, including marriage certificate of Ann E. Moring of Prince Edward County
to William V. Clements of Halifax County."

After passing-out and coming-to several minutes later, (not really) I realized that this Bible
had GREAT significance to MY family line. I HAD TO HAVE IT!

There were five days left in the auction and the bids were already piling up.
I emailed the seller and told her who I was and what
I knew of Ann "Eliza" Moring and her relationship to me.
The seller was amazed, and graciously offered me ALL of the family info in the Bible in case I didn't win it.
She told me that the Bible was bought by her son at an estate sale earlier this year.
Her son bought a sealed "box of stuff" for twenty dollars...and the Bible was among the items in the box!

Needless to say, the days passed slowly until the end of the auction.
I must have checked that auction page 500 times!

The end of the auction approached. I was nervous and sure I wouldn't win it.
To make matters worse, I WOULD NOT be home when it ended! I had a business meeting that would mean major loss of $$$ if I wasn't there.

I reluctantly headed out the door for my meeting, but not before entering an absurd dollar figure for my bid.
If I lost that Bible it wouldn't be without a fight...I was gonna go down swinging!

I returned home and logged-on.

After passing-out again, (not really) I sat there in disbelief....I had WON IT!
Amazingly, for far less than I had anticipated. Only sixty-one bucks!

I can't begin to comprehend the odds of me connecting with this Bible.
The irony of how closely related the original owner was to me and the connection with our old family home place blows my mind.

Thank you eBay...thank you seller "beaverdamcreek"....most importantly...

Thank You God...I know He had a Hand in this!
